Range

Range is the the difference between the greatest and smallest values in a data set. For example in the following numbers: 3, 6, 8, 12, and 15, the range is 15 – 3 = 12.

Example: What is the range for 3, 5, 2, 7, 6, 9, 16, and 18?

Step 1: Arrange the group of numbers from least to greatest

2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9, 16, and 18.

Step 2: Find the lowest and the highest numbers

2 and 18

Step 3: Find the difference between these two numbers.

18 – 2 = 16.
