Median

Median is in the middle. The middle number in the set of ordered numbers is the median. For example the median of the following numbers, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 is 6.

Example: What is the median of 4, 6, 8, 2, and 7?

Step 1: Arrange the numbers in order: 2, 4, 6, 7, and 8

Step 2: Find the middle number – which in this case is 6.

Step 3: If there are two middle numbers – then find their mean. For example in the ordered numbers of 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, and 9 there are two middle numbers – 4 and 6. Finding the mean of these two will give the median, which is 5.
