Line Graph

A line graph is used to display continuing data over time, e.g. rainfall over a year. The lines in the graph indicate whether the data value rises or falls during the time period. A line graph is often used to show the effect of an independent variable (e.g. time) on a dependent variable (e.g. rainfall or population growth).

An example of a line graph is shown below. The graph displays changes of population over time for a specific region.
