Animated Maps

 

 

Animated maps are changing maps or maps in motion. As opposed to static maps they show motion or change over some period of time.  This motion occurs due to constant changes that take place over time. An example of an animated map is shown below.

The animated map shows the flood forecast for the Tar River Basin (Rocky Mount) in North Carolina. The forecast map was created based on historical data from hurricane Floyd. The time frame of the animation is September 15 - 16, 1999.
